Long Beach, CA (Sports Network) - Will Power won Sunday's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, the final race of the Champ Car Series as they have combined with the IndyCar Series to make one open-wheel tour. The No.8 KV Racing Technology driver crossed the finish line 5.094 seconds ahead of rookie Franck Montagny.
The victory was Power's first of the season and third of his Champ Car career.
Mario Dominguez, Enrique Bernoldi and Oriol Servia completed the top-five. All drivers in the race will receive IndyCar points.
Justin Wilson won the pole, but Power was ready to go right from the start taking the lead away from Wilson on the first lap. Wilson's day would get worse, when his engine died on lap 12. He said he had heard some noises a couple of laps earlier, so he was not surprised.
Power dominated for most of the first half of the race, then got shuffled back by cars on different pit and fuel strategies. But in the end it was Power with a solid victory and 53 points towards his IndyCar championship total.
Graham Rahal, star of the IndyCar race in St. Petersburg, finished a disappointing 13th.
The next race for the drivers is the IndyCar event at the Kansas Speedway on Sunday, April 27th.
