Vettel grabs pole for Hungarian GP

Budapest, Hungary (Sports Network) - Sebastian Vettel cruised to his fourth consecutive pole, while his teammate, Mark Webber, secured the outside pole to give Red Bull Racing a front row sweep for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix.

Vettel set a blistering lap of one minute, 18.773 seconds around the 2.722- mile, 16-turn Hungaroring course for his seventh pole of the season and the 12th of his Formula One career. Red Bull continued its domination in qualifying this season by claiming its 11th pole in the first 12 grand prix.

"It was a very good day for us," Vettel said. "All weekend here we felt very comfortable from the first practice session onwards with the car. I think we were able to improve on it again a little bit overnight."

Vettel was 0.4 seconds quicker than Webber. It's the sixth all front row for Red Bull this year.

"I did my best, but it probably wasn't the cleanest of laps on the first one [in Q3], but hey that's the way it goes," Webber said. "In the end, [Vettel] got the lap, and it wasn't my day today, so we're on the front row tomorrow."

Vettel was the fastest in both Friday practice sessions, and Webber posted the quickest lap in Saturday's practice.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who won the German Grand Prix last weekend, qualified third, and his teammate, Felipe Massa, took the fourth spot.

"I think we maximized our potential, and we did our job, which was to be the best of the rest," Alonso said. "Red Bull has dominated the weekend so far, and they have the first row. Hopefully, we can make it a difficult race for them tomorrow."

Last year, Massa was involved in a near-fatal crash during the second segment of qualifying (Q2) in Hungary. The Brazilian sat out the remainder of the 2009 season while recovering from his injuries.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, who is the current world championship leader and defending Hungarian GP winner, will start fifth. Nico Rosberg from Mercedes GP will roll off sixth.

Renault teammates Vitaly Petrov and Robert Kubica will share the fourth row, with Petrov taking the seventh spot and Kubica the eighth position.

Pedro de la Rosa from BMW Sauber and Williams' Nico Hulkenberg completed the top-10.

Defending world champion Jenson Button from McLaren surprisingly failed to advance into Q3, as he will start 11th. Mercedes' Michael Schumacher also was eliminated after Q2. The seven-time F1 champion will start 14th.
