Motegi, Japan (Sports Network) - Water seeping up through the asphalt (weepers) forced IndyCar officials to postpone the Indy Japan 300. The race has been rescheduled for Saturday at 10 p.m. (et).
Rain caused the cancellation of qualifying yesterday and though it was not raining at the scheduled race start time, track officials couldn't get the track dry enough to run the event. IndyCars don't use treaded tires so for them to go 200+ m.p.h. the track must be completely free of moisture.
"They just keep coming back," said Brian Barnhart, IRL Chief Operating Officer. "We had it to a point where we were pretty comfortable, went and got a few drivers. By the time we got back to turn four it was already to a point that it was un-runable."
When the race finally gets underway, Helio Castroneves will lead the field to the green flag.
