Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Tony George's IndyCar race team Vision Racing has suspended operations due to lack of sponsorship, the team announced on Thursday.
The team said on its twitter account that it will continue to search for sponsorship to resume operations. Menards sponsored Vision's effort during the 2009 season.
George, who founded the Indy Racing League in 1996, along with his wife Laura, daughter Lauren and actor Patrick Dempsey, who stars on the hit television show "Grey's Anatomy," own the team.
Vision was formed in 2005 and formed to a three-car operation in '07.
Ed Carpenter, the stepson of George, is the team's primary driver. Ryan Hunter-Reay also drove for Vision last year but recently moved over to Andretti Autosport to run a limited schedule for them this season.
Earlier this month, George resigned from his board of director role at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Hulman and Company -- his family-owned business. He resigned his position as chief executive officer of IMS and the IRL in June 2009.
