Blickensderfer takes over as Edwards' NNS crew chief

Concord, NC (Sports Network) - Drew Blickensderfer will reunite with Carl Edwards in the NASCAR Nationwide Series less than one week after Roush Fenway Racing removed Blickensderfer from the role as Matt Kenseth's Sprint Cup Series crew chief.

Blickensderfer is replacing Mike Kelley as the crew chief for Edwards' No.60 Nationwide team, effective immediately.

Kelley will assume the role of competition director for Roush Fenway's Nationwide effort. Mike Beam held the position, but Roush has elevated Beam to speedway specialist in the racing organization's research and development department.

Blickensderfer spent three seasons as a Nationwide crew chief for Roush. He worked with Kenseth in his limited Nationwide schedule in 2007 and half of 2008 before moving over to Edwards' team for the final 19 races that season. Edwards finished just 21 points behind champion Clint Bowyer in '08.

Edwards holds the Nationwide points lead after top-five finishes in the first two races this season -- Daytona and California.

"Drew is a wonderful team builder," team co-owner Jack Roush said. "He will bring car-of-tomorrow experience to the Nationwide shop. Carl and Drew have a strong track record together."

Blickensderfer had served as Kenseth's crew chief since the start of the 2009 Sprint Cup season. The duo won last year's Daytona 500 in their first start together. Todd Parrott replaced Blickensderfer in the role following Kenseth's eighth-place finish in the season-opener at Daytona.
