Keselowski captures pole at Las Vegas in record fashion

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Brad Keselowski will start on the pole for Saturday's Sam's Town 300 Nationwide Series race after setting a new track qualifying record at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Keselowski knocked Kevin Harvick off of the pole with a lap of 185.427 m.p.h.

"I don't know how it worked out, but the car must have been that good," said Keselowski, who claimed his fourth career pole in the series.

Keselowski has finished 23rd, 27th and 34th in his first three Nationwide races at Las Vegas.

Harvick's lap of 185.027 m.p.h. secured him the outside pole.

Carl Edwards, the current points leader, qualified third, followed by Denny Hamlin and Las Vegas-native Kyle Busch.

Paul Menard, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Brian Scott, Greg Biffle, the defending race winner, and Brian Vickers completed the top-10.

The top-10 finishers topped Scott Speed's 2009 track record of 182.451 m.p.h.

Danica Patrick will start 37th. Patrick is making her last Nationwide start before taking a four-month hiatus to focus on her full-time IndyCar Series schedule. She finished three laps behind in 31st last week at California.

"After last week, if we finish in the top-25, that will be a good thing," Patrick said.

Jason Keller, Johnny Chapman, Derrike Cope, Jeremy Clements, Stephen Leicht, John Borneman III, Andy Ponstein and Morgan Shepherd failed to qualify.

The Nationwide race at Las Vegas is scheduled to start around 4:30 p.m. (et).
