NOTES: The 27th season of the Nationwide Series begins this week with a new title sponsor, as Nationwide takes over for Busch. Defending series champion Carl Edwards returns, as does defending race champion Kevin Harvick. Edwards won the crown by a whopping 618 points, as scored four wins and 21 top-10 finishes in 35 races. Last season, Harvick, starting from the 31st position, took the lead on lap 79 and held on the rest of the way to edge Dave Blaney by less than a second for his 27th career Nationwide title. Pole sitter Aric Almirola finished 19th. The Earnhardt family has dominated this race over the years, as Dale Sr won this race five consecutive years from 1990-94 and seven overall and Jr three straight from 2002-04. Tony Stewart is a two-time champion, have raced to victory in 2005-06. In 2006, Stewart crossed the finish line just as a caution flag came out for a huge 10-car accident. Stewart took the lead with just 13 laps remaining and held on to edge Burney Lamar. Pole sitter J.J. Yeley, who led for the first 13 laps, finished eighth, while Earnhardt Jr, who led three times for a race-high 48 laps, placed 17th. Chevrolet has won this race six straight years and 10 times in the last 12 seasons. Pontiac, with Randy Lajoie behind the wheel, captured the race in 1999 and 2001. The pole sitter has won this race twice, the last coming in 2003, when Earnhardt Jr took the checkered flag. Joe Nemechek is the only other driver to accomplish this feat. Next week, the NASCAR Nationwide championship moves to the California Speedway for the Stater Bros. 300 on February 23rd, as Matt Kenseth defends his title. 02/12 19:14:10 ET
