NASCAR - Nationwide - Carquest Auto Parts 300 Preview

NOTES: Kasey Kahne recorded the first of his two 2007 Nationwide Series wins, as he raced to victory over Casey Mears. Kahne, who started 32nd on the grid, took the checkered flag 2.448 seconds ahead of Mears. Kahne led twice for a race-high 43 laps, while pole sitter Matt Kenseth led three times for 39 laps and finished seventh. Kahne, who now owns seven career Series titles, reclaimed the lead on lap 159 and held on the rest of the way. 37 cars finished the race with 16 on the final lap. Carl Edwards raced to a 2.458 seconds victory over Kurt Busch in the 2006 Carquest Auto Parts 500. Starting in the ninth position, Edwards reclaimed the lead on lap 195 of the 200-lap event to post his seventh career Nationwide Series title. Edwards led three times for a total of 14 laps, while Casey Mears, who finished fourth, led twice for 59 laps. Pole sitter, Matt Kenseth failed to finish due to accident/engine problems, placing 38th and leading for a race-high 83 laps. Starting from the 19th position, Kyle Busch reclaimed the lead on lap 155 of the 200-lap event and held on to edge Sterling Marlin by .503 of a second for his second consecutive win in this race. With his victory, Busch joined a list of multiple back-to-back champions. Tim Richmond was the first driver to accomplish the feat (1985-86), followed by Mark Martin (1998-99) and Jeff Green (2001-02). Busch led a total of 63 laps, while third-place finisher Ryan Newman led for 38. The pole sitter has won this race four times, the last coming in 1992, when Jeff Gordon took the checkered flag. The Nationwide/Sprint weekend sweep has occurred only three times in history at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Bobby Allison was the first in 1984, followed by Dale Earnhardt in 1986 and Mark Martin in 1996. The next race in the Nationwide Series is Saturday, May 31st at Dover International Speedway for the Dover 200, as Carl Edwards defends his title. 05/20 16:00:13 ET
