NASCAR - Nationwide - Heluva Good! 200 Preview

NOTES: Starting from the eighth position, Carl Edwards dominated last year's race, as he led three times for 122 laps, en route to his 12th career Nationwide Series title. The race finished under caution, as pole sitter Denny Hamlin placed second. Hamlin led twice for 50 laps. The win in 2007 was one of four, as Edwards now totals 13 career wins. Although winless this season, Edwards has five top-five's and seven top-10 finishes in 13 races, as he stands third on the points list. The big story for this week is the debut of recently-turned 18-year-old, Joey Logano. A native of Connecticut, Logano turned 18 last week making him eligible to compete in the Series. Logano captured the 2007 Camping World Series East title and has come a long way since racing quarter-midgets at the age of seven. The Honorary starter for this year's race is Harriet Carangi, winner of the Heluva Good! Racing Contest. The Grand Marshal will be Jeff Martin, Executive VP of Sales and Merchandising, Giant Carlisle and the National Anthem will be sung by Ashley Aldrich. Dario Franchitti is listed in the field this week, marking his first race since breaking his left ankle in April at Talladega. In 2006, Jeff Burton raced across the finish line, 1.170 seconds ahead of Carl Edwards for his 22nd career Nationwide Series title. Starting from the 36th position, Burton worked his way to the front on lap 182 of the 200- lap race and held on for the win. Edwards led three times for a race-high 67 laps, while pole sitter Kevin Harvick led for six and placed 13th. In 2005, Martin Truex Jr crossed the finish line two seconds ahead of Reed Sorenson for his third win of that season and the ninth of his Nationwide Career. Truex, who started in the fifth position on the grid, reclaimed the lead on lap 143 and held on the rest of the way. Overall, Truex led for a total of 70 laps. Pole sitter Carl Edwards finished 31st due to engine problems. The NASCAR Nationwide Series championship moves to the Nashville Superspeedway for the Federated Auto Parts 300 on June 7th, as Carl Edwards defends his title. 05/29 10:15:25 ET
