Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Ron Hornaday Jr. put a dominating performance in Saturday's MemphisTravel.com 200 to win his second consecutive Camping World Truck Series race at Memphis Motorsports Park.
Hornaday started on the pole and led a track record 174 laps, but had to hold off Brian Scott in a green-white-checkered finish to win his second race of the season and extend his record in the series to 42 career victories.
During a round of pit stops midway through the 200-lap race, Scott remained on the track and took over the top spot, while most of the leaders came in. Timothy Peters and Stacy Compton also stayed out. Hornaday beat Aric Almirola out of the pits by less than a truck length to restart fourth.
Scott ran in front briefly, but Hornaday moved underneath him in traffic to take the lead for good with 65 laps to go.
"I didn't think I had anything for Brian Scott," Hornaday said. "When he got out in front there, it was pretty tough. Once I got around him, I figured he was going to stay on my bumper for a while. I just pulled a little bit far way, and then the green-white-checkered came, and I did everything I could."
Hornaday was awarded the distinctive Elvis Presley trophy for his win at Memphis.
One week ago, Hornaday celebrated his 51st birthday by winning the rain- delayed race at Milwaukee. He led 180 of 200 laps there.
Hornaday has now won at Memphis three times, including a victory here last year. His first win at the .75-mile track came in the 1998 inaugural event.
Scott finished second, followed by David Starr, Almirola and Matt Crafton.
"We had really good pit stops and just excellent pit strategy," Scott said.
Scott continued to drive with a broken right wrist that he sustained in an early-race accident two weeks ago at Michigan.
Mike Skinner, Peters, Johnny Sauter, Colin Braun and Todd Bodine completed the top-10.
Hornaday stretched his lead to 76 points over Crafton.
