NASCAR - Craftsman Truck - Toyota Tundra 200 Preview

NOTES: Travis Kvapil captured the Toyota Tundra 200 in 2007. Mike Skinner led the first 102 laps, but Kvapil's truck came to life as he caught Skinner and then made the pass for the lead. Kvapil led the final 49 laps, and crossed the finish line 2.403 seconds ahead of Ron Hornaday Jr for his third Craftsman Truck Series victory of the season and the eighth of his career. Skinner, who started on the pole, placed third. After posting back-to-back wins the past two races, Johnny Benson will try to accomplish something that's only been done five times, win three straight Craftsman Truck Series races. Benson has had chances in the past, but failed to capitalize. Former series champ Mike Skinner has twice managed the feat back in 1997 and in 2007. Ron Hornaday Jr, Todd Bodine and Greg Biffle are the other drivers to win three straight. In 2006, Benson won for the third time that year, as he crossed the finish line, just 0.492 of a second ahead of Jack Sprague. Starting from the 22nd position, Benson worked his way towards the front and finally claimed the lead on the final lap, as he outsprinted Sprague for the win, the third of 12 career titles. Sprague dominated the race early, leading the first 36 laps. Ron Hornaday Jr took over for the next 27 laps, but failed to finish due to an accident, placing 33rd. Todd Bodine and Mike Skinner enjoyed success in the middle section of the race, as Bodine led from laps 79-99 and Skinner from 100-149. Bodine reclaimed the lead on lap 150, but was passed on the final lap and placed eighth, while Skinner finished 17th. The Toyota Tundra 200 twice has been won from the pole - Scott Riggs in 2001 and Bliss the following year. Benson started 22nd in 2006, deepest in the field by a race winner. After a week off, the Craftsman Truck Series championship returns August 20th for the O'Reilly 200 at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee, where Johnny Benson captured the 2007 race. 08/06 12:39:20 ET
