Odds & News | MK ( Tue 22nd, February 2011 )

Records are made of effort and dedication, Trevor Bayne accomplished both at the moment he won the 53rd Daytona 500 last Sunday

On his first attempt, he won one of the most notorious nationwide races; a feat only made by Lee Petty in 1959 event.

The new repaved track of Daytona witnesses the young Bayne make it to the finish line. 118 seconds over the veteran Carl Edwards and giving victory to the Wood Brothers at the victory lane since their last time in 2001. Trevor turned 20 the day before; so winning a race of this magnitude itīs like receiving a delayed birthday present.

But there are thinks to take in consideration. Even if Bayne was able to reach this huge achievement, sadly he didnīt received points for it. The reason itīs because is this year NASCAR is limiting the competitors to earn points in one series only to keep Cup drivers from taking away points from the drivers that compete in nationwide most of the time. Even if Bayne has a full time riding Nationwide with the Roush Fenway Racing and a 17th race Cup schedule with the Wood Brothers; he didnīt get points for that accomplishment.

However there are merits to recognize; the kid started the race being at the 32 position, from there he outraced Carl Edwards, David Gilliland, Bobby Labonte and Kurt Busch. Bayne made a race of historic proportions that feature 16 Cautions, 74 lead changes and 22 different ladders.

Bayne couldnīt believe his eyes; when he was running to the ending line, he told his team by radio - ĻAre you kidding me?! Am I dreaming right now?Ļ and at the victory lane he was still shocked, - I keep thinking I am dreaming. Getting a winning at a nationwide race at his age is something that sounds out of the world of dreams; but now he knows dreams can come true.

Sunday was a great day for the young driver, full of excitement, adrenaline behind the wheel and 14 cars Pileup. The Nationwide Series will be continued with Carl Edwards leading at the stands for Phoenix race this coming Sunday. With The new NASCAR score system leaving Bayne without points, the system has favored Edwards with one point lead over other drivers like Gilliland and Labonte and two points over Kurt Busch.
