Fort Myers, FL (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Twins have optioned pitcher Philip Humber to Triple-A Rochester.
Humber was acquired from the Mets as part of the deal that sent two-time Cy Young winner Johan Santana to New York. He appeared in seven games this spring for the Twins, allowing nine hits and two runs in 14 innings for a 1.29 earned run average.
The 25-year-old right-hander was considered among the Mets' top prospects. He was the third overall pick in the 2004 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft after three strong seasons at Rice University.
Humber pitched in three games late last season as a September call-up for the Mets, and in his lone start allowed six hits and five runs in four innings of a no decision against Washington. He was 11-9 with a 4.27 earned run average in 25 starts for Triple-A New Orleans.
Minnesota also optioned infielder Brian Buscher and outfielders Jason Pridie and Denard Span to Rochester, while reassigning pitcher Casey Daigle to minor league camp.
