New York, NY (Sports Network) - Colorado Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday was selected as the top player in the National League for the period ending April 13.
Holliday, who won the award for the fifth time in his career, led the NL with a .480 batting average and 10 runs batted in during the week. The 28-year-old slugger belted two home runs and added a triple with two doubles en route to posting a slugging percentage of .880 and a .519 on-base percentage.
The 2007 NLCS Most Valuable Player, Holliday hit safely in all six games he played and recorded four multi-RBI games.
Other nominees for the this week's award included St. Louis slugger Albert Pujols, who belted three homers and drove in seven runs with a .417 batting average; Arizona's Justin Upton, who batted .476 with eight runs batted in; and Philadelphia's Cole Hamels, who was 2-0 with an earned run average of 0.64 and nine strikeouts.
