Boston, MA (Sports Network) - David Ortiz finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and Sean Casey drove in the winning run with a walk as Boston rallied with four runs in the eighth inning to clip Texas, 6-5, in the third installment of a four-game set at Fenway Park.
Jed Lowrie collected two hits and drove in a run for the Red Sox, who look for a four-game sweep in the series finale on Monday. Kevin Youkilis had three hits, while Dustin Pedroia and J.D. Drew also knocked in a run each.
Veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (2-0) notched the win by allowing all five runs on seven hits over eight innings, fanning five without walking a batter despite serving up a pair of home runs.
Milton Bradley slammed a three-run shot and Ian Kinsler added a solo homer for the Rangers, who have dropped eight of their last 10 games.
C.J. Wilson (0-1) took the loss, charged with two runs on two hits with three walks, all without recording an out. Starter Kevin Millwood gave up 10 hits and two runs in six innings of work.
We're not afraid of the Boston Red Sox," said Rangers manager Ron Washington. "We've just got to learn how to put ball games away. We can play with anybody. We just have to put ball games away late."
In the eighth, Lowrie doubled in Jacoby Ellsbury then Ortiz plated Lowrie with a single. Pinch-hitter Pedroia followed by lacing a ball to the triangle which scored a lumbering Ortiz, and got the diminutive infielder to third on an errant relay throw.
Youkilis was granted an intentional walk, then Drew also walked and Casey worked a 3-2 count before his base on balls forced in Pedroia with the go- ahead run.
Jonathan Papelbon removed any drama in the ninth, setting down the Rangers in order to record his seventh save.
"It's just how we drew it up," said Red Sox manager Terry Francona said, tongue-in-cheek. "There's something to be said for just plugging away and not feeling sorry for yourself and trying to play the game. Some good things happened. Actually, some great things happened."
Kinsler, the first batter of the contest, greeted Wakefield by slamming a looping pitch over the Green Monster for a 1-0 Texas lead.
Texas picked up another run in the second on an RBI groundout from Gerald Laird, then boosted their advantage to 5-0 in the sixth when Bradley cleared the Monster with a three-run homer.
The Sox picked up two runs off Wes Littleton in the seventh on RBI singles from the struggling Ortiz and Drew.
