Orioles resume road trip in Anaheim

(Sports Network) - The Baltimore Orioles continue a 10-game road trip this afternoon as they battle the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the second of three weekend games at Angel Stadium.

The Orioles are 6-7 on the road and won't play in Baltimore again until May 13.

Last night, Nick Markakis went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs batted in, and Jeremy Guthrie pitched seven solid innings as the Orioles picked up a 4-3 win over the Angels.

Melvin Mora went 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Orioles, who won for just the second time in their last six games. Jay Payton was 2-for-3 and scored a run, while Brian Roberts went 0-for-5 as his 11-game hit streak came to an end.

Guthrie (1-3) broke a 15-start winless streak after holding the Angels to two runs on three hits, striking out six. George Sherrill allowed a run in a rocky ninth inning but still notched his 11th save.

Torii Hunter went 3-for-3, drove in a run and scored a run for the Angels, who have dropped two straight. Erick Aybar and Casey Kotchman drove in a run apiece, while Chone Figgins walked twice, stole his 10th base of the season and scored.

Jered Weaver (2-4) absorbed the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in seven frames while collecting six strikeouts.

Baltimore will give the ball to Daniel Cabrera today. He is 2-0 with a 4.14 ERA in six outings with the same number of strikeouts (21) as walks. The righty received a no-decision his last time out on Monday against the Chicago White Sox, as he gave up two runs and four hits in 6 1/3 innings. He also walked seven batters after issuing just two base-on-balls in his previous two outings.

Cabrera, who has led the league in walks the last two seasons, is 2-3 lifetime against the Angels with a 6.55 ERA, having surrendered 44 hits in only 33 innings.

John Garland will be on the hill for the Angels this afternoon, and while his 3-3 record is solid, his 5.94 ERA could certainly stand some improvement. In 36 1/3 innings of work this year, Garland has surrendered 51 hits while striking out a mere nine batters. He was roughed up by Oakland on Monday, giving up 10 hits and seven earned runs in six innings.

Garland is 5-2 all-time against Baltimore with a 4.50 ERA.

The Angels won seven of 10 versus the Orioles last year, including three of four at home, and are 17-10 against them since the start of the 2005 season.
