Indians promote OF Tyner from minors

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians purchased the contract of veteran outfielder Jason Tyner from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.

Tyner spent the past three seasons in the Minnesota Twins organization, making appearances in the major leagues in each. Last season he played 114 games with the Twins, and hit .286 with 14 doubles, one home run, and 22 runs batted in.

Tyner, a former first-round draft pick in 1998 by the New York Mets, has played in parts of seven big league seasons with the Mets, Tampa Bay, and Minnesota, compiling a lifetime .275 average with one homer and 94 runs batted in.

To allow room for Tyner on the roster the Indians optioned pitcher Tom Mastny to Buffalo.
