(Sports Network) - Arizona ace Brandon Webb takes aim at his major league- leading 12th win of the season this evening when the Diamondbacks visit New York for the second tilt of a three-game series at Shea Stadium.
An 18-game winner in 2007, Webb defeated the Mets back on May 3 to improve to 7-0 after allowing five hits and four runs over six innings of a 10-4 victory in Phoenix.
That win improved the 29-year-old right-hander's lifetime record against the Mets to just 3-6 in 10 starts, though he's posted a 2.58 earned run average in 69 2/3 innings.
Webb, who is 11-2 with a 2.58 ERA on the year, has won two straight starts since a brief two-start losing streak, combining to allow nine hits and an earned run over 16 innings while beating Washington and Pittsburgh.
New York right-hander Mike Pelfrey was on the short end of the May 3 decision against Webb.
In that game, the former 2005 first-round draft choice - ninth overall - allowed nine hits and five runs in five innings.
The loss was the third start in what's become a nine-start drought for Pelfrey, who's gone 0-6 with three no-decisions since a 6-0 blanking of Washington on April 15.
He's lost both of his career starts against the Diamondbacks, allowing a combined 12 hits and eight runs in 10 1/3 innings, while walking eight and striking out two.
On Tuesday, Chris Snyder's solo home run in the top of the eighth inning gave Arizona the lead for good, as the Diamondbacks rallied to down the Mets, 9-5.
Arizona starter Micah Owings went 4 1/3 innings and allowed five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits while striking out two and walking three. Chad Qualls (1-5) tossed a scoreless seventh to pick up the win.
Orlando Hudson and Stephen Drew each belted two-run homers for the Diamondbacks, who snapped a two-game slide. Conor Jackson hit a solo homer and added an RBI single.
New York starter John Maine lasted five innings and yielded three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. Joe Smith (0-1) gave up the home run to Snyder and was saddled with the loss.
David Wright clubbed a two-run homer for New York, which has dropped a season- high-tying five in a row. Carlos Beltran, Luis Castillo and Jose Reyes each had two hits, while Moises Alou knocked in two runs.
The game was delayed 61 minutes before the start of the seventh inning due to heavy rain.
The Mets took two of three from the D'Backs earlier in the season in Arizona.
