New York, NY (Sports Network) - Major League Baseball suspended minor leaguer outfielder Jonathan Quinonez and pitcher Yeiger Sanchez for 50 games Saturday after both players tested positive for an illegal performance-enhancing substance.
Quinonez, of the Tampa Bay Rays organization, and Sanchez, of the New York Mets' system, both tested positive for metabolites of Nadrolone. Both were playing with their respective Venezuelan Summer League teams. The suspensions are effective immediately.
Quinonez was hitting .260 with nine home runs and 40 runs batted in through 58 games. Sanchez was 0-2 with a 6.39 earned run average in four starts.
