Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Phillies made it official on Saturday morning and announced the acquisition of outfielder Matt Stairs in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Toronto will receive a player to be named later in exchange for the 16-year veteran, who will join his 11th major league club.
Stairs had been designated for assignment by the Blue Jays following Thursday's game against Tampa Bay.
The 40-year-old Stairs, who inked a two-year contract extension worth $3.25 million last November, batted .250 with 11 home runs and 44 RBI in 105 games this season for Toronto.
In 1,646 big league games since 1992, the left-handed hitter has a career .266 batting average with 252 homers and 859 RBI.
