Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs have traded right-hander Jason Marquis to Colorado for reliever Luis Vizcaino.
The move helps clear money for the Cubs, who are reportedly on the verge of signing volatile outfielder Milton Bradley to a three-year, $30 million deal.
Marquis, 30, was 11-9 this past season with a 4.53 earned run average in 29 games (28 starts). He has recorded double digits in wins in each of the last five seasons and is 79-70 lifetime with a 4.55 ERA in 257 games (198 starts) for the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals and Cubs.
With Marquis gone, Sean Marshall, Jeff Samardzija and Kevin Hart are expected to compete for the fifth spot in Chicago's rotation.
Vizcaino, meanwhile, appeared in 43 games for the Rockies last season and was 1-2 with a 5.28 ERA. He had spent the 2007 campaign with the Yankees, going a career-best 8-2 for them with a 4.30 ERA in 77 games - also a career-high.
Over 10 years in the league with the Oakland Athletics, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White SOx, Arizona Diamondbacks, Yankees and Rockies, the 34-year-old Vizcaino is 34-27 with seven saves and a 4.34 ERA in 528 games.
