Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Penguins and center Jordan Staal have agreed to terms on a new four-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed, although Staal will play the remainder of this season under his entry-level deal. The new pact will start with the 2009-10 season and run through 2012-13.
The 20-year-old native of Thunder Bay, Ontario has 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points in 41 games this season. He has netted 52 goals with 39 assists for 91 points in 204 NHL games over three seasons.
Staal was selected with the second overall pick of the 2006 NHL Draft and scored 29 goals as an 18-year-old rookie during the 2006-07 campaign. He finished as the runner-up to teammate Evgeni Malkin for the Calder Trophy as the top rookie that season.
