Houston, TX (Sports Network) - The Houston Texans tabbed Frank Bush as the team's next defensive coordinator on Tuesday.
Bush takes over the defensive reins from Richard Smith, who was fired after his third season as the coordinator for a defense that finished 27th overall in points allowed this past season.
The 46-year-old Bush has spent a majority of his coaching career on the defensive side of the ball, including stints with the Houston Oilers (1992-94), Denver Broncos (1995-2003), and Arizona Cardinals (2004-05) before spending the past two seasons as the Texans' senior defensive assistant.
The 2009 campaign will be Bush's 25th NFL season as a player, scout and coach.
