Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers agreed on one-year contracts with pitcher Fernando Rodney and outfielder Marcus Thames on Wednesday, avoiding arbitration with both players.
Rodney has been with the Tigers since 2002, appearing in 235 games and compiling a 13-25 record with a 4.25 earned run average and 33 saves, 13 of which came during the 2008 campaign.
Thames, a seven-year veteran, hit his career average (.241) last season in 103 games for Detroit. The 31-year-old also hit 25 home runs and drove in 56 runs last year, raising his lifetime totals to 88 homers and 225 RBI.
