San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - The San Francisco Giants added relief pitcher Javier Lopez to their bullpen in a three-player trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.
The Pirates received pitcher Joe Martinez and outfielder John Bowker from the Giants.
Lopez, in his first season with the Pirates after four with the Red Sox, is 2-2 with a 2.79 earned run average through 50 appearances this season. In 393 career games for the Rockies, Diamondbacks, Red Sox and Pirates, the 33-year- old is 13-9 with a 4.37 ERA.
Bowker has played in 41 games for the Giants this season and is batting .207 with three homers and eight RBI. In 183 career games over three seasons, the 27-year-old is a .238 hitter with 15 homers and 58 RBI.
Martinez has made just four appearances this season for San Francisco, including one start, and is 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA. He also played in nine games in 2009 and has a career 3-3 record with a 6.80 ERA.
