Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs activated right-hander Carlos Silva from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday, in time to make his first start in over a month.
The Cubs announced on Saturday that Silva, who hadn't taken the hill due to a heart issue, would make his return to the rotation against the Houston Astros.
Silva's last performance came on August 1, when he was removed from a start against the Rockies in Denver due to an abnormal heart rate. Since that time, the 31-year-old underwent a cardiac ablation procedure to steady his heartbeat.
In a 7-3 setback to the Astros, Silva took the loss and was charged with nine hits and six runs over five innings.
The Cubs made five additional roster moves Tuesday, calling up five players from their Triple-A affiliate in Iowa.
Chicago recalled pitchers Justin Berg and Jeff Samardzija, along with outfielder Sam Fuld, while selecting the contracts of infielder Bobby Scales and outfielder Brad Snyder.
