It was July 23 when the right-hander squashed reports that he had been traded
to Atlanta via his Twitter account, saying: 'THERE IS NO TRADE dont know
where this info came from!'
But the Rangers, bidding for a third straight trip to the World Series,
acquired his services at the non-waiver trade deadline for pitcher Kyle
Hendricks and infielder Christian Villanueva.
Dempster departs the sinking Cubs with a 5-5 record and 2.25 earned run
average in 16 starts on the year, appearing in 535 games with the Marlins,
Reds and Cubs during his 15-year major league career.
Hendricks, a Dartmouth product, has gone 5-8 with a 2.82 ERA for Single-A
Myrtle Beach this year.
Villanueva, his teammate with the Carolina League club, hit .285 with 10 home
runs, 19 doubles and 59 RBI in 100 games thus far.
