Tampa Bay Rays (1-1) at Baltimore Orioles (1-1), 7:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Ageless right-hander Steve Trachsel begins his 18th season in the majors tonight, when the Baltimore Orioles host the Tampa Bay Rays in the finale of a three-game season-opening set at Camden Yards.

Trachsel, who turned 37 in October, began his career with three starts for the Chicago Cubs in 1993, several years before the Tampa Bay franchise entered the majors.

He won 15 games with the Cubs in 1998 and actually pitched one season for the Rays, going 6-10 in 23 starts with a 4.58 earned run average in 2000 after coming over from Toronto.

The product of Long Beach State pitched for the New York Mets in 2006 and then for the Orioles and Chicago Cubs last season, combining to go 7-11 in 29 starts.

He is 0-3 in five career appearances against Tampa Bay.

The Rays counter with youngster Andy Sonnanstine, who reached the majors and made 22 starts for Tampa Bay last season. He finished 6-10 with a 5.85 ERA in 130 2/3 innings.

A 13th-round pick in the 2004 draft, Sonnanstine made three starts against the Orioles and was 1-2 with an 8.04 ERA, allowing 24 hits and 14 runs in 15 2.3 innings.

Overall, he allowed 151 hits and struck out 97, while walking 26. Opponents hit .293 off him, including 18 home runs.

On Wednesday, Aubrey Huff finished 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, four RBI and a pair of runs scored as Baltimore rallied late to top Tampa Bay, 9-6.

Nick Markakis and Adam Jones contributed two hits, an RBI and a run scored apiece for the Orioles, who earned their first win of the year after dropping a 6-2 decision to Tampa Bay on Monday.

Jamie Walker (1-0) held the Rays at bay in the eighth inning to earn the win. George Sherrill notched his first save as an Oriole with a scoreless ninth. Starter Daniel Cabrera turned in a subpar performance, allowing six hits and six runs with two strikeouts and five walks over four-plus innings.

Cliff Floyd hit a three-run homer and Carlos Pena added a two-run shot for the Rays. Al Reyes (0-1) was charged with three hits and four runs with a pair of walks over just two-thirds of an inning.

Tampa starter Matt Garza allowed six hits and five runs over 5 1/3 frames in the no-decision.

Baltimore won 11 of its 18 matchups with the Rays last season and is 36-21 against them since the start of the 2005 campaign. Tampa, though, has won four of its last five at Camden Yards after losing nine in a row there.
