(Sports Network) - The Baltimore Orioles take aim at their third straight win this evening when they continue their four-game series with the Seattle Mariners at Camden Yards.
In the opener of this set on Friday, Melvin Mora hit a two-run homer and Luis Hernandez also drove in a pair of runs as Baltimore picked up a 7-4 win. Ramon Hernandez and Kevin Millar finished 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored each for the Orioles, who split a rain-shortened two-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays to open the year.
Steve Trachsel (1-0) earned the win, allowing four hits and two runs over 5 2/3 innings in his first start of the season. George Sherrill picked up his second save by retiring two batters in the ninth.
Adrian Beltre and Richie Sexson both hit two-run shots for the Mariners, who have dropped two of their last three.
Seattle starter Jarrod Washburn (0-1) took the loss, charged with six hits and three runs in five full frames.
Baltimore will hand the ball to 23-year-old Adam Loewen, who made just six starts a year ago before he was lost for the season with an elbow injury that required surgery. Loewen was 2-0 with a 3.56 ERA in six starts before the injury.
Loewen has faced the Mariners twice (one start) and is 0-1 against them with a 7.11 ERA.
Seattle will counter with righty Miguel Batista, who picked up a save earlier this week with a perfect inning of relief against the Texas Rangers. Batista, though, was the Mariners' best starter from start to finish last season. In his first year with the club, he made 32 starts and won a team-high 16 games while pitching to a 4.29 ERA.
Batista is 0-3 with a 10.95 ERA in three career starts against the Orioles.
The Mariners swept a three-game series from the Orioles in Baltimore last August and are 7-2 in their last nine matchups at Camden Yards. Seattle won seven of the nine overall meetings between these teams a year ago.
