Chicago White Sox (3-2) at Detroit Tigers (0-5), 8:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Justin Verlander tries to get the Detroit Tigers their first win of the season this evening, as the club tries to avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park.

Detroit fell to 0-5 on the young season on Saturday, as Jermaine Dye homered and Chicago used a four-run sixth inning to post a 5-3 victory. Dye crossed the plate twice, and Jim Thome provided the White Sox' first hit of the game with an RBI double in Chicago's pivotal sixth frame.

The White Sox tallied just three hits, but drew eight walks in the win.

Gavin Floyd (1-0) picked up the win after allowing three runs on six hits and two walks through six innings on the hill.

Dontrelle Willis took a no-hitter into the sixth inning for the Tigers, but battled control problems the whole way as Detroit remained the lone winless team in the majors.

Making his American League debut, Willis walked seven batters and allowed three runs in five-plus innings of work. He only allowed one hit and did not factor in the decision. Zach Miner (0-1) took the loss after allowing one unearned run in the sixth inning.

Detroit hasn't dropped five straight to open a season since the 2003 campaign, when it opened 0-9 and went on to an American League-record 119 losses. Another loss today and the Tigers will have their first six-game losing streak since losing eight in a row from September 16-23, 2005.

Brandon Inge drove in all three runs for the Tigers on Saturday with an RBI double and two-run home run.

Verlander, meanwhile, received a no decision on Opening Day against the Kansas City Royals. He allowed four runs and four hits in six innings of that one, while striking out six and walking a batter.

The 25-year-old right-hander, who did not receive a decision in any of his three starts against the White Sox last season, has struggled in his career against Chicago. In eight starts against the Sox, Verlander is just 1-4 with a 5.96 ERA.

Mark Buehrle hopes to improve off a horrendous 2008 debut when he takes the mound for the White Sox tonight. The veteran lefty was shelled for seven runs and seven hits -- including a pair of home runs -- in just 1 2/3 innings by Cleveland this past Monday. Buehrle did not receive a decision, however, in an eventual 10-8 Chicago loss.

The 29-year-old has a solid 12-8 record with a 3.14 ERA in 24 games (23 starts) lifetime against Detroit.

Chicago, which swept a three-game set from the Tigers last season at Comerica, won 11 of 18 meetings with the Tigers in 2007, including six of the nine encounters held in the Motor City. Since 2005, the White Sox have posted a 21-9 record in Detroit.
