Philadelphia Phillies (2-3) at Cincinnati Reds (3-2), 1:15 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Newcomer Edinson Volquez makes his first regular-season appearance in a Cincinnati uniform today when the Reds host the Philadelphia Phillies in the third game of a four-game series at Great American Ball Park.

Volquez, a 24-year-old right-hander from the Dominican Republic, was acquired by the Reds in a December 21 trade that saw Josh Hamilton shipped to the Texas Rangers. Volquez had appeared in 20 big-league games over three seasons, going 3-11 with a 7.20 earned run average in 80 innings.

He shared the "prime youngster" spotlight with teammate Johnny Cueto in the spring, however, going 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 20 innings for the Reds in March.

A 6-foot, 200-pounder, Volquez has never faced the Phillies.

Starter-turned-closer Brett Myers turns starter again for the Phillies, making his second start of the season and 145th of his career.

The Jacksonville, Florida native was touched for five hits and three earned runs over five innings of his initial 2008 effort, taking the loss in an 11-6 defeat by Washington.

Myers, a first-round draft pick in 1999, was a starter from 2002-2006 for Philadelphia, reaching double-digit wins four times. He was transitioned to closer because of chronic injuries in the team's bullpen, however, and went 5-7 with 21 saves in 2007 with a 4.33 ERA over 68 2/3 innings.

He's faced the Reds seven times, including five starts, in his career, going 2-0 with a 3.74 ERA in 33 2/3 innings.

On Saturday, Paul Bako went 3-for-4 and drove in the winning run with a ninth- inning single, as the Reds squeaked out a 4-3 victory over the Phillies.

Corey Patterson homered and scored a pair of runs, and Reds closer Francisco Cordero (1-0) earned his first win with his new team after tossing a scoreless top half of the ninth.

Starter Aaron Harang allowed just two runs on six hits over his seven innings, helping Cincinnati to its third win in four games.

Ryan Howard homered and Chase Utley was 2-for-3 with a run batted in for Philadelphia, which got a solid - if not spectacular - outing from much- maligned fifth starter Adam Eaton. Eaton lasted into the eighth inning, yielding just three runs on six hits, though he walked four and surrendered the game-tying home run to Patterson.

Chad Durbin (0-1) took the loss, allowing one run on one hit in the ninth.

Philly won four of six from the Reds last season and is 13-8 in the series since the start of the 2005 campaign.
