Baltimore Orioles (5-1) at Texas Rangers (3-3), 2:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Former first-round draft pick Jason Jennings will try to erase a sub-par 2008 debut when he takes the hill for the Texas Rangers today in their home opener against the Baltimore Orioles.

Jennings, a 29-year-old right-hander, was the 16th overall pick in the 1999 draft by the Colorado Rockies. He reached the majors in 2001 and was a double- digit winner three times - including a 16-8 mark in 2002 - before going to Houston in 2007.

He was 2-9 in 19 games with the Astros and began this season with the Rangers, allowing five hits and four runs in five innings of a 4-1 loss to Seattle on April 2.

He's made one lifetime start against the Orioles and won it, allowing six hits over seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.

Young lefty Brian Burres makes his first start of the season for Baltimore. He pitched one inning of one-hit, scoreless relief on March 31 against Tampa Bay.

Overall, Burres has made 17 starts in 49 career appearances. He was 6-8 in 37 games last season for the Orioles, allowing 80 earned runs in 121 innings.

He's made one forgettable relief appearance against the Rangers in his career, allowing eight hits and eight runs in just two-thirds of an inning.

On Monday in Baltimore, Aubrey Huff's solo homer in the eighth inning lifted the Orioles over Seattle, 5-4, in the finale of a four-game set from Camden Yards.

Melvin Mora hit a two-run homer for the Orioles, who swept the series and have won five straight games. Brian Roberts also drove in two runs while Luis Hernandez added two hits and scored once.

Dennis Sarfate (2-0) notched the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. George Sherrill continued to bedevil his former club by posting his fourth save of the season and third of the series.

Starter Daniel Cabrera allowed five hits and four runs over six innings, walking four and fanning five.

On Sunday in Anaheim, Gerald Laird homered twice and recorded a career-high six runs batted in as the Rangers overpowered the LA Angels of Anaheim, 10-4, in the rubber match of a three-game series.

Laird finished 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored, and Vicente Padilla (1-0) picked up the win after allowing four runs -- three earned -- on nine hits through seven innings. Padilla did not allow a walk and struck out four.

Ben Broussard recorded a two-run homer for Texas, who finished 3-3 in its six- game road trip to begin the season. Ian Kinsler, Michael Young and David Murphy each notched two hits.

Texas won six of its 10 matchups with the Orioles last season and is 18-11 in the series since the start of the 2005 campaign, including an 11-7 mark in Arlington in that time.
