(Sports Network) - Right-handed phenom Johnny Cueto makes his second major- league start tonight when the Cincinnati Reds visit the Milwaukee Brewers in an early season showdown between National League Central Division hopefuls at Miller Park.
A 22-year-old Dominican, Cueto made his big-league debut on April 3 against Arizona, allowing a run and a hit in seven innings while walking none and striking out 10.
He retired the first 15 batters he faced through five innings.
Veteran Jeff Suppan counters for the Brewers. The 33-year-old righty has faced the Reds 11 times in his career, going 3-2 with a 6.05 earned run average in 64 innings.
He made his first start of 2008 on April 2 at Wrigley Field, defeating the Cubs, 8-2, after allowing six hits and two runs in 6 1/3 innings.
Suppan was 12-12 in 34 starts with Milwaukee last season, one year after helping the St. Louis Cardinals to a World Series championship and going 12-7 in 32 starts.
On Monday in Cincinnati, Pat Burrell belted two of Philadelphia's four home runs and Cole Hamels pitched seven strong innings, as the Phillies held on for a 5-3 victory over the Reds in the finale of a four-game series at Great American Ball Park.
Brandon Phillips and Jeff Keppinger drove in runs for the Reds, who concluded a season-opening homestand 4-3.
Bronson Arroyo (0-1) took the loss for Cincinnati. He gave up five runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and no walks, but surrendered all four of Philadelphia's home runs.
On Sunday in Milwaukee, Ben Sheets twirled a five-hitter for his second career shutout and Ryan Braun drove in three runs, as the Brewers completed a three- game sweep of the San Francisco Giants with a 7-0 victory.
Sheets (1-0) did not walk a batter and struck out eight to earn his first shutout since May 29, 2001 against St. Louis. He threw 78 of his 109 pitches for strikes, limiting San Francisco to three singles and a pair of doubles.
Braun finished 3-for-5 with a double and a homer. Gabe Kapler also homered and drove in two runs for Milwaukee, which has won five of six to start the season.
The Reds won their season series with the Brewers last year, 8-7. However, Milwaukee holds a 27-23 edge in the matchup since the start of the 2005 campaign, including a 16-10 mark at Miller Park in that time.
