(Sports Network) - Cincinnati ace Aaron Harang makes his third attempt at a first win of the year today when the Reds visit the Milwaukee Brewers in the finale of a three-game series between National League Central Division rivals at Miller Park.
The 6-foot-7, 275-pounder, a contender for the NL's Cy Young Award in each of the last two seasons, went six innings and allowed two earned runs in a 4-2 loss to Arizona on March 31, then got a no-decision after seven innings of two-run ball against Philadelphia on April 5.
The Reds won that game, 4-3.
Harang has won 16 games in each of the past two seasons and has combined to strike out 434 batters in 446 innings while posting consecutive earned run averages of 3.76 and 3.73, respectively.
He is 4-3 with a 4.58 ERA in 14 lifetime starts against the Brewers.
Carlos Villanueva makes his second start of the season for Milwaukee.
The 24-year-old right-hander earned his first victory on April 4 against San Francisco, limiting the Giants to two runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings of a 13-4 Brewers rout.
He's been a spot starter through portions of two seasons in the big leagues, making 12 starts and 58 relief appearances in 2006 and 2007. He'd faced Cincinnati eight times in that span, including three starts, going 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA in 23 1/3 innings.
On Wednesday, Corey Patterson hit his fourth home run of the season, doubled twice and knocked in two runs, as the Reds pummeled the Brewers, 12-4. Ken Griffey, Jr. finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored, while Brandon Phillips and Ryan Freel each added two hits for the Reds, who snapped a two- game skid.
Josh Fogg (1-1) allowed three runs -- one earned -- on four hits, while fanning three over five innings of work.
Ryan Braun and Bill Hall each hit solo home runs, while Jason Kendall and Corey Hart finished with two hits apiece for the Brewers, who had a four-game winning streak stopped.
Dave Bush (0-2) was charged with five runs -- four earned -- on six hits in 5 1/3 innings. Seth McClung gave up five runs on five hits in two innings of relief.
The Reds won their season series with the Brewers last year, 8-7. However, Milwaukee holds a 28-24 edge in the matchup since the start of the 2005 campaign, including a 17-11 mark at Miller Park in that time.
