Atlanta Braves (5-6) at Washington Nationals (3-9), 1:35 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Southpaw Tom Glavine makes his third try at a first win of 2008 when the Atlanta Braves head to Washington today to close out a three- game series with the slumping Nationals at brand-new Nationals Park.

Now 42 years old, Glavine has picked up a pair of no decisions in 2008 starts. He allowed seven hits and one earned run in five innings of the Braves' 12-11 loss to Pittsburgh on March 31, then returned to the mound Monday in Colorado and gave up just three hits in 6 1/3 scoreless innings of a 2-1 loss to the Rockies.

Glavine has made 67 career starts against the Nationals/Expos franchise, going 33-23 with 10 complete games and a 3.37 earned run average in 449 innings.

He was 13-8 in 34 starts last season with the New York Mets and recorded the 300th win of his career during the 2007 campaign.

Right-hander Tim Redding will try to regain the form of his initial 2008 start with the Nationals when he takes the mound today.

The 30-year-old Rochester, N.Y. native was strong in an April 2 start at Philadelphia, allowing just one hit in seven scoreless innings of a 1-0 Washington victory.

He was less fortunate five days later, however, allowing seven hits and seven runs -- though just one earned -- over four innings of a 10-7 loss to Florida on Monday.

In three career appearances against the Braves, including two starts, Redding is 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA in 11 innings.

The right-hander will be attempting to halt a rough nine-game losing streak for Washington, which was extended with Saturday's 10-2 pounding by the Braves. Jeff Francoeur hit two home runs and added a two-run single, driving in a career-high seven runs to lead Atlanta.

John Smoltz (2-0) threw six strong innings for the Braves, allowing one run on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Brian McCann went 3-for-4 with a solo homer for Atlanta, which has rebounded from dropping three straight in Colorado to win its first two against the Nationals.

Washington starter John Lannan (0-2) was ripped for nine hits and six runs in four frames, walking four and fanning two. Cristian Guzman collected three hits for the Nats.

The Braves won 11 of their 18 matchups with the Nationals last season.
