Detroit Tigers (2-9) at Chicago White Sox (6-4), 2:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Chicago White Sox will try once again to keep the sputtering Detroit Tigers offense under wraps when the American League Central foes wrap up a three-game series tonight at U.S. Cellular Field.

The Tigers could muster next to nothing against Chicago's Gavin Floyd on Saturday, as the young right-hander took a no-hitter into the eighth inning in the White Sox' 7-0 victory.

Floyd (2-0) pushed through early control struggles to dominate the highly- touted Tigers lineup, fanning four and walking four in 7 1/3 innings, his longest career start. The former first-round pick had retired 12 consecutive hitters until Edgar Renteria dropped in a single to right with one out in the top of the eighth to spoil Floyd's no-hit bid.

Scott Linebrink immediately replaced Floyd following Renteria's single and teamed with closer Bobby Jenks to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

Orlando Cabrera's solo homer in the third inning looked to be the only offensive output for the White Sox, until Detroit's Justin Verlander imploded in Chicago's six-run eighth.

Verlander (0-2) pitched well into the eighth, where he hit two batters and gave up five of his six runs. He was touched for four hits and walked four in 7 2/3 innings for Detroit, which fell to a major-league worst 2-9 on the season.

The Tigers are also last in the AL with a .240 average, and the team's 33 runs scored are tied with Kansas City for the lowest in the league.

A.J. Pierzynski went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and one scored for the White Sox, who rebounded from consecutive losses to win for the sixth time in eight games.

Getting the assignment for Detroit in today's tilt will be the battle-tested Kenny Rogers. The 43-year-old is still in search of his first victory of the season after being dealt a pair of defeats in his initial two outings.

Rogers could last only 4 2/3 innings this past Tuesday in Boston, with the grizzled vet surrendering eight hits and walking three while being touched for three runs -- two earned -- in a 5-0 loss to the Red Sox. The setback left Rogers with back-to-back setbacks to begin a season for the first time since 1995.

The left-hander has fared well when facing the White Sox over the course of his long career, however. In 55 overall games (31 starts) against Chicago, Rogers is 16-9 with an earned run average of 4.25. However, he was 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA in three starts versus the Pale Hose a year ago.

A rainout on Thursday has led a shuffling of the Chicago rotation. Mark Buehrle, the originally slated starter for today's matchup, has been pushed back by manager Ozzie Guillen to Monday in order to have Javier Vazquez, who will take the mound instead this afternoon, pitch on his customary four days of rest.

The move may also have something to do with the White Sox' upcoming opponents. Vazquez is 1-2 with a 6.60 ERA lifetime against the Oakland Athletics, whom Chicago will face on Monday, but won all three of his starts versus Detroit last season and worked at least seven innings in each of those games.

Vazquez is coming off a strong showing his last time out as well. Taking on Minnesota at home on Monday, the right-hander held the Twins to three runs and struck out eight batters over seven innings to earn his first win of the season.

In eight career appearances against Detroit, Vazquez owns a 4-4 record and 4.72 ERA.

The White Sox, who swept a three-game series from the Tigers in the Motor City last week, have now won 15 of 23 meetings with their division rival since the start of the 2007 campaign. Detroit has gone just 11-19 in its last 30 visits to U.S. Cellular Field.
