Milwaukee Brewers (7-4) at New York Mets (5-5), 1:10 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Oliver Perez will try to extend his season-opening scoreless-inning streak this afternoon, when his New York Mets host the Milwaukee Brewers in the rubber match of a three-game series at Shea Stadium.

Perez is 1-0 through two starts and has yet to allow a run in 11 2/3 innings so far in 2008. The left-hander tossed six shutout frames in a win over Florida on April 2 before going 5 2/3 innings without a run allowed on Tuesday versus Philadelphia. He got a no decision in that one, though.

The 26-year-old Perez is 3-1 in seven career starts against Milwaukee with 54 strikeouts. However, he has also given up 21 runs (20 earned) in 41 2/3 innings for a 4.32 earned run average.

Perez will be facing a Brewers lineup that touched ace Johan Santana for three home runs in Saturday's 5-3 victory over New York. Bill Hall and Rickie Weeks hit solo home runs and Gabe Kapler added a two-run shot for the Brewers, who snapped a three-game slide.

Hall has just two hits in 15 at-bats (.133) versus Perez lifetime, while Prince Fielder has one in eight plate appearances, though it was a home run. Fielder went 1-for-4 in yesterday's win and has yet to homer this season after posting 50 last year.

Milwaukee starter Ben Sheets (2-0) also drove in a run and rebounded from a shaky first two innings to win his second straight start. Sheets, who entered the game with a 15 1/3 scoreless innings streak of his own to start the season, surrendered three runs -- two in the first -- on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 7 2/3 frames.

The Brewers have now split the first two tests of their current nine-game road trip that next heads to St. Louis.

David Wright homered and drove in two runs for the Mets, but he also committed a pair of errors. Carlos Delgado doubled home a run for New York, which had a three-game winning streak stopped and fell to 3-2 on a nine-game homestand. The Mets welcome Washington to town next.

Santana (1-2), who made his first two starts for the Mets on the road, did not impress the Shea faithful. The left-hander was tagged for five runs -- four earned -- on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. He also threw a pair of wild pitches.

The Mets played without Jose Reyes, who is listed as day-to-day with a hamstring injury. Reyes left Friday's game against Milwaukee and underwent an MRI exam that revealed a mild strain.

Jeff Suppan toes the rubber for Milwaukee today and is 1-0 with a 2.03 ERA so far this year. The right-hander picked up a win over Chicago on April 2 behind 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball, and was even better on Tuesday against the Reds. Suppan limited Cincinnati to only a run and six hits over seven innings, but got a no decision in Milwaukee's 10-inning victory despite leaving with a 2-1 lead.

Suppan, 33, has a 2.81 career ERA against the Mets and has gone 3-2 in eight starts against them. He went 0-1 versus New York last year.

The Mets won four of six versus the Brewers last season after the clubs split six meetings in each of the previous two years. New York has won five of its last eight as the host against Milwaukee.
