(Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers try to avoid a fourth straight loss this evening, when they begin a brief two-game series with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Rangers Ballpark.
Texas was swept over the weekend by the Toronto Blue Jays, culminating with a 5-4 setback in 10 innings Sunday in Arlington. Frank Catalanotto was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Rangers, whose skid comes on the heels of a two-game win streak.
The Rangers' Ian Kinsler went 2-for-5 with a run batted in and one scored, while Josh Hamilton belted a solo homer and had two RBI in the loss.
Scott Feldman got the first start of his major league career for Texas and went six innings, giving up three runs on eight hits while fanning three and walking two for a no decision. Dustin Nippert (0-1) got the loss by walking two and giving up a run in the 10th.
Jason Jennings gets the call for the Rangers tonight as he tries to bounce back from two horrendous starts to open his campaign. Jennings' most recent setback came last Tuesday against Baltimore, when he allowed four runs and seven hits while walking four batters over 4 2/3 innings. That loss dropped him to 0-2 on the year and raised his ERA to 7.45.
Jennings has only faced the Angels twice in his career and is 1-0 with a 4.26 ERA against them.
Los Angeles will have right-hander Ervin Santana on the hill this evening. Santana, who is 4-4 lifetime against the Rangers, has been absolutely abysmal in Texas over his career, posting a 1-4 mark while pitching to a 8.92 ERA in seven starts at Rangers Ballpark.
Santana, though, has been good for the Angels thus far, going 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts. He received a no decision against the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday, as he allowed a pair of runs and six hits in six innings of his team's 4-3 loss.
The Angels salvaged the finale of their three-game affair with the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, as Jeff Mathis went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and three runs scored to lead Los Angeles to a 10-5 win.
Vladimir Guerrero and Gary Matthews, Jr. each had a pair of runs batted in, while Howie Kendrick and Casey Kotchman each went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Halos, who pounded out 16 hits in the win.
Joe Saunders (2-0) earned the win, allowing two runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Texas took two of three from the Angels earlier in the season after losing 10 of 19 matchups to Anaheim a year ago. The Rangers, though, have won seven of the last eight overall meetings.
