(Sports Network) - Dustin McGowan tries to help Toronto extend its winning streak to four games this evening, when the Blue Jays open a brief two-game series with the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.
McGowan is still searching for his first win of the year despite two solid outings. In his most recent start Wednesday against Oakland, McGowan surrendered two runs and seven hits in five innings, but did not factor in the decision of his team's 6-3 loss. He had allowed two runs and four hits over six innings in a no decision against the New York Yankees in his season debut.
The 26-year-old right-hander is 0-2 lifetime against the Orioles while pitching to a 7.52 earned run average in six games, three of which have been starts.
Toronto, meanwhile, bounced back from getting swept in a three-game set at home to Oakland by completing a three-game sweep of its own over the weekend against the Texas Rangers. The Blue Jays completed their second sweep of the year on Sunday, as Joe Inglett was 1-for-4 with two runs batted in, including the game-deciding sacrifice fly that lifted Toronto to a 5-4 win in 10 innings.
Rod Barajas ended the day 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for the Blue Jays, who have won six of nine and swept the Rangers in Arlington for the first time since 1985.
Starter A.J. Burnett went 5 2/3 frames, giving up four runs on seven hits in a no decision. Jesse Carlson (1-0) got the win by getting the final two outs of the ninth inning, while B.J. Ryan got his first save of the year after yielding only one hit in the 10th.
Ryan was activated before the game, as he had not pitched in the majors since April 14 of last season because of Tommy John surgery.
After a surprising start to the season, Baltimore has hit the skids by losing four of its last five, including a 6-2 setback to the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday at Tropicana Field.
Nick Markakis homered, while Brian Roberts went 2-for-5 for the Orioles, who wrapped up a six-game road trip at 2-4.
Brian Burres (1-1) took the loss after being tagged for six runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings while striking out four and walking four.
Heading to the hill tonight for the O's will be right-hander Matt Albers, who will be making a spot start for the team thanks in part to the doubleheader it played on Thursday. Albers, acquired from Houston as part of the Miguel Tejada deal, has pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings in three relief appearances this season.
Albers, who was 3-11 with a 5.71 ERA in 18 starts last season for the Astros, has never faced the Blue Jays.
Toronto won 10 of its 18 matchups with the Orioles a year ago and is 31-25 in the series since the start of the 2005 campaign. However, the Jays are just 8-10 in Baltimore over the past two seasons.
