(Sports Network) - Texas pitcher Kevin Millwood hopes for some run support this afternoon, as his Rangers try to avoid a sweep in the finale of a brief two-game series with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Rangers Ballpark.
Millwood has allowed just three earned runs in his three starts this season -- spanning 21 innings -- but only has one win to show for it. He put forth his third straight solid start to the season on Thursday, when he held the Baltimore Orioles to a run and three hits over seven frames to earn his first victory. That improved him to 1-2 on the campaign to go along with a 1.29 earned run average.
The 33-year-old right-hander, who gave up two runs and 12 hits in a loss to the Angels two starts ago, is 2-3 lifetime against Los Angeles with a 3.38 ERA in eight starts.
Los Angeles will counter with righty Dustin Moseley, who is 1-1 with a 7.36 ERA. Moseley, though, enters this matchup on the heels of his first win of the season after beating Cleveland last Wednesday. He gave up four runs and nine hits in six innings of that one, while fanning five and walking a batter.
Moseley is 0-1 in his young career against the Rangers with a 4.60 ERA in seven games, two of which have been starts.
In the opener of this set on Monday, Vladimir Guerrero finished 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and a run batted in to lift Los Angeles to a 7-4 win. Mike Napoli went 2-for-3 with a homer and Casey Kotchman had two RBI for the Angels, who have won two in a row.
Ervin Santana (2-0) gave up three runs on seven hits in seven innings, striking out six and walking one to get the win. Francisco Rodriguez came in and pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save of the season.
Hank Blalock went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three total RBI in the Rangers' fourth straight loss, while Milton Bradley finished 3-for-4.
Texas starter Jason Jennings (0-3) was touched for seven runs -- six earned -- in 4 2/3 innings, and walked four with five strikeouts.
On the injury front, Los Angeles will likely again be without second baseman Howie Kendrick, who sat out Monday's win after straining his left hamstring in Sunday's triumph over Seattle.
These teams have split their four matchups this season, but the Rangers have won seven of the last nine overall meetings. The Halos, though, have not swept a series in Arlington since taking a three-gamer from the Rangers from September 30-October 2, 2005.
As part of Jackie Robinson Day, commemorating the 61st anniversary of the Hall of Fame second baseman breaking the color barrier and entering the league, all members of the Angels and Rangers will wear his No. 42, which was retired throughout Major League Baseball by commissioner Bud Selig on April 15, 1997.
