(Sports Network) - Chicago starting pitcher Gavin Floyd will try to continue his hot start to the 2008 season tonight, when he takes the mound for the White Sox in the finale of a short two-game series against the Baltimore Orioles from Camden Yards.
Floyd is unbeaten with a 2.02 ERA over his first two starts of the season, having defeated Detroit with six innings of three-run ball on April 5 before hurling 7 1/3 shutout frames in another victory over the Tigers a week later.
The young right-hander, who is in his second year with the White Sox, has never faced Baltimore in his career.
Chicago has won two straight and four of five games, and posted a 3-1 victory over the Orioles in the opener of this set on Wednesday. Starter Jose Contreras was brilliant in Chicago's fifth straight road win, as he gave up just four hits and a run over seven innings. Bobby Jenks got his sixth save of the year after throwing a perfect ninth.
Jim Thome provided all the offense for the Pale Hose with a three-run blast in the first inning. Chicago will resume its road trip with a three-game series against Tampa Bay over the weekend.
Aubrey Huff finished 1-for-4 and knocked in the only run for Baltimore, which has dropped two in a row and three of four overall. Orioles starting pitcher Adam Loewen was handed the loss after surrendering three runs on six hits and five walks in six innings of work.
Baltimore will host the New York Yankees after this series with Chicago.
Orioles starter Jeremy Guthrie is still in search of his first win of the season and toes the rubber on Thursday.
Guthrie is 0-1 with a 4.34 earned run average through three starts in 2008. He lost his season debut on March 31 versus Tampa Bay, then posted back-to-back no decisions against the Mariners and Rays.
In his last start Friday at Tampa Bay, Guthrie was reached for a pair of runs and eight hits over 6 1/3 innings in a 10-5 setback.
In three career games (one start) against Chicago, the righty is 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA.
Baltimore won the season series with the White Sox a year ago by a 5-3 margin, including wins in three of the four matchups at Camden Yards.
