Detroit Tigers (5-10) at Cleveland Indians (5-10), 7:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers opened the season in a funk with seven straight losses, but seem to be headed in the right direction as of late with three wins in a row. They will try to stay on track in tonight's finale of a two-game series against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field.

Detroit improved to 5-10 on the season with a 13-2 pummeling of the Tribe in Wednesday's opener. Miguel Cabrera finished 4-for-6 with five RBI and two runs scored, while Edgar Renteria had three hits and drove in five runs for Detroit, which had 17 hits and will resume its trek with a four-game series at Toronto following tonight's game.

Tigers starting pitcher Armando Galarraga, making only his second career start, allowed two runs on one hit and struck out six in 6 2/3 innings. Galarraga was starting in place of the injured Dontrelle Willis.

Jason Grilli then hurled 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to preserve the easy win.

Tigers ace Justin Verlander, not having the type of start to the season he had anticipated, takes the hill this evening.

Verlander is 0-2 with a 6.52 earned run average through three starts this season, and has lost consecutive trips to the hill after opening the year with a no decision. He last pitched on Saturday at the Chicago White Sox, allowing six runs and four hits in 7 2/3 innings of a 7-0 loss.

The hard-throwing right-hander, who went 18-6 in 32 starts last season, owns a 3-5 career record and a 6.84 ERA in nine starts against the Tribe.

Cleveland has lost three in a row and didn't get much help from starter C.C. Sabathia yesterday. Sabathia, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, was roughed up for nine runs and eight hits over four-plus innings. The southpaw also walked five batters and struck out just one.

David Dellucci hit a solo homer for Cleveland in defeat.

The Indians will send promising youngster Fausto Carmona to the hill on Thursday, and he is 1-1 with a 2.20 earned run average in three starts this season.

Carmona, who recently signed a four-year contract with club options for 2012 through 2014, last took the hill on Saturday versus Oakland. He suffered the defeat after yielding three runs and two hits in 3 1/3 innings of a 7-3 loss.

The right-handed native of Santo Domingo is 3-2 with a 3.35 ERA in eight career appearances (5 starts) against Detroit.

Cleveland won 12 of its 18 matchups with the Tigers a year ago and is 30-26 in the series since the start of the 2005 campaign. However, the Tribe is just 13-15 as the host against Detroit over that time.
