Detroit Tigers (6-11) at Toronto Blue Jays (8-9), 1:07 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Jeremy Bonderman tries to keep the Detroit Tigers in the win column this afternoon when they play the second contest of their four-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

Detroit entered the season with high expectations following the offseason acquisitions of Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis. However, things did not go as planned for Jim Leyland's crew, as the Tigers lost their first seven and 10 of their first 12 games.

But, after a tongue-lashing from Leyland last weekend, Detroit seems to have righted the ship. On Friday the Tigers won for the fourth time in their last five games, as Edgar Renteria went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three runs batted in, and Detroit scored seven unanswered runs in an 8-4 comeback win. Ivan Rodriguez and Miguel Cabrera each doubled twice, knocked in a run and scored a run in the win.

Kenny Rogers (1-3) picked up the win after allowing four runs on three hits while walking four over 6 2/3 innings.

Rod Barajas homered for the Blue Jays, who lost their third straight. Shannon Stewart added a two-run triple, while Aaron Hill added his 13th RBI of the season.

Jeremy Accardo (0-3) took the loss after allowing three runs -- two earned -- in two-thirds of an inning in relief. David Purcey, making his big league debut, recovered from a shaky start to allow just one run on two hits while walking seven over 4 1/3 innings.

Bonderman, who is 1-1 with a 4.58 ERA on the year, gets the call today for the Tigers, as he tries to bounce back from his worst start of the season. Against the Minnesota Twins on Monday, Bonderman surrendered seven runs (four earned) and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings, but did not factor in the decision of his team's 11-9 win.

The 25-year-old right-hander is 2-1 lifetime against the Jays with a 3.00 ERA in eight games, seven of which have been starts.

Toronto will counter with righty Dustin McGowan, who absorbed his first loss of the season his last time out. McGowan gave up three runs and 10 hits in six innings to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday, as he slipped to 0-1 on the year to go along with a 3.71 ERA.

McGowan has faced the Tigers three times and is 1-2 against them with a 9.95 ERA. However, he has lost two straight to them, allowing 14 runs and 11 hits in only 6 1/3 innings of those outings.

These clubs split a four-game set in Toronto last April, with the Tigers winning four of their seven overall encounters with the Blue Jays in 2007.
