(Sports Network) - The streaking Arizona Diamondbacks aim for a fourth straight win tonight, as they host the San Diego Padres in the second test of a three-game series at Chase Field.
The Diamondbacks, who already own an eight-game win streak this season, have outscored their opponents 21-3 over their last three wins that includes a 9-0 blanking of San Diego on Friday.
Conor Jackson finished 4-for-5 with a solo home run, two triples, four RBI and three runs while falling a double shy of the cycle. Justin Upton finished 3- for-4 with a run scored and one batted in, while Eric Byrnes and Mark Reynolds each recorded a pair of hits. Chris Snyder knocked in three runs.
Starter Dan Haren (3-0) got the win by scattering three hits over seven innings. Brandon Medders and Yusmeiro Petit combined to throw two innings of perfect ball.
Brian Giles, Adrian Gonzalez and Kevin Kouzmanoff got the only hits for San Diego, which has dropped three straight contests, getting outscored 21-3 in that span as well. Greg Maddux (2-1), going for his 350th career win, got the loss after being roughed up for nine runs and 13 hits in seven innings.
San Diego was fresh off a 22-inning marathon game against Colorado on Thursday. The Padres got into Phoenix in the early hours of Friday after they suffered the 2-1 defeat to the Rockies.
After having his start pushed back a day due to a sore elbow, Chris Young will toe the rubber for the Padres tonight. Young experienced the ailment after Saturday's start against the Dodgers that saw the 6-foot-10 right-hander get tagged for seven runs (6 earned) on seven hits and four walks in three innings of an 11-1 loss.
Young fell to 1-1 on the season while watching his earned run average lift from 2.13 to 5.17.
The 28-year-old is just 1-3 with a 5.53 ERA in six career starts versus the Diamondbacks, going 0-3 in four starts last year versus the club. That includes a pair of losses at Chase Field.
Byrnes, who has a 13-game hitting streak, is just 3-for-19 (.158) against Young with a homer and eight strikeouts.
Edgar Gonzalez will start for Arizona and has made a pair of starts this year, both against the Rockies. He got a no-decision on April 6 after yielding only one run in five innings, but yielded three runs on five hits in just three innings in a loss on Sunday while pitching with an infected tooth.
The 25-year-old righty had that problem corrected, though, and is 2-1 with a 4.08 ERA in five appearances (2 starts) versus the Padres. He pitched twice against them last year in relief, allowing a run in two innings without a decision.
Arizona won 10 of its 18 matchups with San Diego last year, winning six of nine at home.
