(Sports Network) - Right-hander Edwin Jackson can rebound from a shaky last outing today when the Tampa Bay Rays host the Chicago White Sox in the closing game of a three-game series at Tropicana Field.
Jackson, a sixth-round draft choice of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2001, was a winner in his initial two starts of 2008, defeating Seattle and the New York Yankees while allowing only seven hits and one run in 14 innings.
He was beaten by the Yankees in an April 15 rematch, however, giving up four hits and five runs in just five innings of a 5-3 loss.
Jackson reached the majors with the Dodgers in 2003 and was 6-4 with them over 19 appearances through 2005. He came to Tampa Bay for the 2006 season and became a full-time starter last year, going 5-15 in 32 outings -- 31 starts.
He's started once against the White Sox and got a no-decision, allowing nine hits and four runs in six innings.
Second-year lefty John Danks looks for a second consecutive strong start.
The 23-year-old Texan scattered five hits in 7 2/3 scoreless innings in an April 15 outing against Oakland, earning his first win of the season in a 4-1 White Sox triumph.
He'd been up and down in two previous 2008 outings, allowing nine hits and eight runs in nine innings while getting a no-decision against Cleveland and dropping a 12-5 verdict to Minnesota.
He's made one lifetime start against Tampa Bay and won it, giving up four hits and four runs in five innings.
On Saturday, Andy Sonnanstine tossed the first complete game of his career, as the Rays blanked Chicago, 5-0. Sonnanstine (2-1) scattered just three hits, walked a batter and fanned four in the effort as the Rays won for the second time in three games.
The 25-year-old undoubtedly had not just his best start of the season, but also the best of his brief career. Having broken into the league just last year, he fired eight innings of one-run, two-hit ball against the New York Yankees on August 27, 2007.
It had been Sonnanstine's longest outing to date, as Tampa went on to a 9-1 victory in that contest.
B.J. Upton had three hits and drove in a run, while Carl Crawford went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Rays.
The loss went to Mark Buehrle (1-2), who allowed five runs on 12 hits over seven innings for the White Sox, who have dropped two of three. The Sox managed just three singles in the contest and didn't get a runner past second base.
The White Sox dominated the season series with Tampa last year, taking six of the seven contests and sweeping a four-game set in St. Petersburg in late June.
