Detroit Tigers (6-13) at Toronto Blue Jays (10-9), 12:37 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Armando Galarraga makes just the third start of his young career this afternoon when the Detroit Tigers wrap up their six-game road trip with the finale of a four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

Galarraga, starting in place of the injured Dontrelle Willis, won his season debut on Wednesday against the Cleveland Indians. as he allowed two runs and just one hit -- a home run -- over 6 2/3 innings.

This will be the 26-year-old righty's first-ever appearance against the Blue Jays.

Toronto will hand the ball to a 26-year-old righty of its own in Shaun Marcum, who is 2-0 with a 2.61 ERA. Marcum earned the win last Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles, giving up two runs and four hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Marcum will be making his first start against the Tigers, but has faced them three times out of the bullpen without recording a decision. However, he has allowed three runs in 3 2/3 innings of those outings.

In the third game of this set on Sunday, David Eckstein clubbed a three-run homer and finished with two runs scored, lifting Toronto to a 5-3 win. Alex Rios and John McDonald each drove in a run for the Jays, who have won two straight on the heels of a three-game skid.

A.J. Burnett (2-1) lasted five innings to pick up the win, yielding three runs on four hits, with six walks and four strikeouts.

Toronto also made some news off the field on Sunday, releasing designated hitter Frank Thomas. The 39-year-old disgruntled slugger was benched Saturday after hitting just .167 with three homers and 11 RBI in 16 games. Thomas sounded off after the game and the two sides mutually agreed to part ways.

Toronto remains on the hook for the remainder of Thomas' two-year $18 million contract he signed in November of 2006. That deal also included a $10 million option for 2009 if Thomas had made 376 plate appearances this season.

Clete Thomas went 3-for-5 and knocked in a pair for the Tigers, who have dropped three of their last four games.

Nate Robertson (0-2) was tagged with the loss and was charged with five runs on eight hits over five innings. He walked a batter and fanned five in the outing.

On the injury front Detroit will be without Gary Sheffield (shoulder) and probably Placido Polanco (back). Both players missed Sunday's contest and Polanco was actually sent back to Detroit to be examined. Sheffield will be further evaluated when the Tigers return home.

These clubs split a four-game set in Toronto last April, with the Tigers winning four of their seven overall encounters with the Blue Jays in 2007.
