Texas Rangers (7-12) at Boston Red Sox (13-7), 11:05 a.m.

(Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox take aim at their fifth straight win today, as they attempt to complete a four-game sweep of the Texas Rangers in the annual Patriots Day affair at Fenway Park.

Patriots Day, of course, celebrates the anniversary of Paul Revere's ride and the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775, while the 11:05 a.m. (EDT) start takes place just over an hour after the beginning of the 112th running of the Boston Marathon.

Clay Buchholz takes the hill for the Red Sox today, still searching for his first win of the season and will be facing Texas for the first time in his young career.

After losing his first start of the year, Buchholz has not recorded a decision in either of his last two outings, but was pounded by the New York Yankees in his most recent trip to the hill on Wednesday, surrendering seven runs and eight hits over 3 2/3 innings in his team's 15-9 loss. He had given up a run and four hits over six frames to the Yanks two starts ago.

Texas will counter with former Red Sox prospect Kason Gabbard, who came to the Rangers last season as part of the Eric Gagne deal. Gabbard, who was 4-0 in seven starts with Boston before the deal, has pitched well this season for the Rangers, going 1-0 with a 2.41 ERA.

In his most recent trip to the hill against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday Gabbard allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings, but did not factor in the decision of his team's 7-5 win. Texas has won all three of his starts this season.

Gabbard will be facing Boston for the first time, but is 5-0 lifetime at Fenway with a sparkling 1.60 ERA.

David Ortiz continued to break out of his early season slumber in the third game of this set on Sunday, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBI, as Boston rallied with four runs in the eighth inning to eke out a 6-5 win. Jed Lowrie collected two hits and drove in a run for the Red Sox, who will be trying to sweep a four-game series from the Rangers for the first time since turning the trick from August 4-6, 2001.

Ortiz, who came into the series hitting .111, is 5-for-12 with a homer and eight RBI in the three games against the Rangers, raising his average to .160.

Veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (2-0) notched the win and allowed all five runs on seven hits over eight innings, fanning five without walking a batter despite serving up a pair of home runs.

Milton Bradley slammed a three-run shot and Ian Kinsler added a solo homer for the Rangers, who have dropped eight of their last 10 games.

C.J. Wilson (0-1) took the loss, charged with two runs on two hits with three walks, all without recording an out. Starter Kevin Millwood gave up 10 hits and two runs in six innings of work.

Boston won six of its 10 encounters with Texas last season and is 21-10 against the Rangers since the start of the 2005 campaign. These teams did split a four-game series in Fenway Park between June 29-July 2, 2007.

The Red Sox are 64-48 all-time on Patriots Day and have won four straight and six of their last seven on this day.
