(Sports Network) - The Florida Marlins take aim at their fourth straight win this evening when they wrap up a brief two-game set with the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.
In the opener of this set on Monday, Mark Hendrickson struck out five over eight solid innings and the Florida offense pounded out 16 hits, as the Marlins rolled to a 10-4 win.
Hendrickson (4-1) allowed four runs -- three earned -- on eight hits, walking just one and basically giving the Marlins bullpen the night off by pitching through the eighth. At the plate, Hendrickson had a pair of hits, a run batted in and one scored, and Matt Lindstrom cleaned things up with a scoreless ninth.
Dan Uggla went 3-for-5 with a home run, while Josh Willingham and Hanley Ramirez also went deep for Florida. Willingham, Jorge Cantu, Mike Rabelo and Alfredo Amezaga had two hits apiece, with Willingham and Rabelo totaling two RBI each as the first-place Marlins won for the fifth time in their last seven tries.
Matt Morris (0-3) was shelled for eight runs on nine hits in four innings for Pittsburgh, which has dropped six in a row and has been outscored 58-16 during the slide. The Pirates have also given up 10 runs in each of their last three games.
Xavier Nady was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and Ronny Paulino also had two hits, but the Pirates couldn't dig themselves out of an 8-2 hole after four innings.
Nate McLouth singled in the loss and has hit safely in all 19 games this season. His streak is also the longest by a Pittsburgh player at any time since Jason Kendall's 20-game run in 2004.
Florida will hand the ball to right-hander Ricky Nolasco, who is 1-1 this season with a 6.46 ERA. Nolasco was tagged with the loss on Thursday against Atlanta, as he surrendered six runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Nolasco received a no-decision to the Pirates earlier in the year and is 1-1 lifetime against them with a 1.08 ERA in four games, two of which have been starts.
Pittsburgh will counter with lefty Paul Maholm, who is still searching for his first win of the season. Maholm fell to 0-2 on the year on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, surrendering six runs (four earned) and 11 hits in five innings to raise his ERA to 5.28.
Maholm lost to Florida back on April 5 and is just 1-3 in four starts against them, while pitching to a 5.11 ERA.
Florida took two of three from the Pirates earlier in the year and is 11-7 in the series since the start of the 2006 campaign, including a 5-3 mark in Pittsburgh in that time.
