(Sports Network) - Sophomore hurler Tim Lincecum will shoot for his fourth win of the season as the San Francisco Giants end a two-game series with the San Diego Padres tonight at Petco Park.
Lincecum went 2-0 through the first seven starts of his rookie year in 2007, but has already claimed three wins in four outings this season. He has won his last two starts and threw seven shutout innings against the Cardinals on Saturday, working around six hits and three walks while striking out five.
The right-hander, who has a 1.57 earned run average on the season, faced the Padres on April 8, when he received his lone no decision this year. He allowed just one run -- a fielder's choice by Khalil Greene that plated a run -- on seven hits with seven strikeouts and left leading 2-1. However, the Padres tied it in the ninth off of closer Brian Wilson before the Giants won it in the 11th inning.
The 23-year-old is 0-1 in three lifetime starts against the Padres despite a 1.86 ERA.
Chris Young starts for the Padres tonight. After a rough outing on April 12 that saw him allow seven runs (6 earned) over just three innings against the Dodgers and get his first loss of the season, Young was much better last time out Saturday in Arizona.
The 6-foot-10 right-hander yielded just two runs on three hits and three walks over six innings and left the game leading 3-2. However, the Diamondbacks plated eight runs over the final two innings to hand Young a no decision.
The 28-year-old is 1-2 with a 4.58 ERA in six career starts against the Giants and went 1-1 in four starts against them last year.
San Francisco's Aaron Rowand is 0-for-7 in his career against Young, while Fred Lewis has a hit in each of his two at-bats versus the Padres pitcher along with one RBI. Those two each plated a run in the 13th inning of Wednesday's 3-2 victory over San Diego.
The Giants took the lead when Emmanuel Burriss doubled and scored on a Lewis base hit to left-center field. Two outs later, Rowand singled to left for a 3-1 advantage.
Rowand's RBI ended up being huge, as Wilson loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning and gave up a sacrifice fly to pinch-hitter Colt Morton to make it a one-run game. Wilson did re-load the bases, but got out of the jam to get his sixth save of the season.
Keiichi Yabu (2-1) got the win by throwing two-thirds of an inning and Rowand had three hits for the Giants, who snapped a two-game skid.
San Diego's Greg Maddux was in line for his landmark 350th career victory, but Bengie Molina homered in the ninth inning off Trevor Hoffman to spoil the milestone. Maddux threw seven shutout innings, giving up four hits. He struck out five without allowing a walk and remains on the cusp of becoming the ninth member of the 350-win club.
Glendon Rusch (0-2) suffered the loss in relief and Brian Giles had an RBI single in the fifth inning for San Diego, which has dropped three in a row and seven of its last eight games.
San Diego won eight of its nine matchups against San Francisco at home last season, including victories in the last seven. The Padres also won 14 of the 18 overall meetings between the clubs, but lost two of three to the Giants at AT&T Park earlier in the season.
