(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Braves will shoot for their third straight win this afternoon when they resume a three-game series against their NL East- rival New York Mets at Shea Stadium.
Atlanta posted its seventh in nine tries with Friday's 6-3 victory in the opener of the series. Kelly Johnson belted the go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning and drove in four runs to lead the way.
Braves starter Jair Jurrjens allowed two hits and three runs -- all on bases- loaded walks -- over six innings to get the win. The righty also finished with four strikeouts, and the bullpen contribution from Will Ohman, Blaine Boyer, Royce Ring and Manny Acosta combined for the final three hitless innings.
Gregor Blanco had three hits and scored once for the Braves, who improved to 3-0 against the Mets this season.
Tim Hudson gets the nod for the Braves this afternoon, and is 3-1 with a 2.93 ERA in five starts this season. Hudson last pitched on Monday in a win over Washington, hurling 6 2/3 innings and allowing two runs -- one earned.
The right-hander faced the Mets earlier this season on April 5. Hudson came out victorious after giving up three runs in six innings of an 11-5 victory.
Hudson is 8-4 with a 3.68 ERA in 13 career starts against New York.
The Mets have lost two straight and five of their last six games. David Wright, Carlos Beltran and Ryan Church all knocked in runs Friday night in the losing cause. Mike Pelfrey was tagged with the loss after he allowed nine hits and five runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Toeing the rubber for the Mets today will be John Maine, who is 1-2 with a 3.57 earned run average in four starts this season.
Maine lost his last outing on Monday in a 7-1 loss at Chicago, as he gave up a pair of runs and five hits in six innings of work.
The right-hander lost to the Braves on April 5, surrendering four runs and eight hits in four innings. In four career starts against Atlanta, Maine owns a 1-2 mark with a 4.84 earned run average.
